Tree of the Day - Barbados, Berlin and Moscow!

We've received some lovely photos of Christmas trees from around the world. A frequent visitor of our Grand Christmas Tree Festival moved to Barbados in September of this year, and sent in some photos of trees from the Bridgetown Christmas Tree Festival in 2018. The trees represent the all the countries in the Commonwealth in a wonderful display of community.

Christmas traditions vary around the world, with Christmas Trees a unifying global theme. Christmas in Russia can be truly magical, if rather cold!  A choir parent visited Moscow in 2018. You can glimpse St. Basil's Cathedral in the background.

Christmas in Moscow is celebrated on 25 December but according to the Gregorian calendar which falls in the first week of January. It is observed throughout Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church plays a critical role in this celebration.

Three years ago I visited the Christmas Markets in Berlin! Without doubt my favourite was the Charlottenburg Palace market, it's special feature is its location: Set up in front of the famous Charlottenburg Palace, about 250 vendors display and sell nostalgic Christmas crafts such as nativity figures and tree decorations. Traditional German Christmas sweets like stollen, spritz biscuits and marzipan loaves are available at the market too. Charlottenburg Palace, parts of the extensive castle grounds and the Christmas market itself are festively illuminated creating a magical backdrop to the market itself, the smells of gingerbread, mulled wine, freshly-baked bread from a wood-fired oven and other savoury snacks adding to the Christmas atmosphere!
